GENEVA, Ohio (February 22, 2022) – Howard University men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened Day One of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships shattering four records.
In the 800 Free Relay, juniors
Mark-Anthony Beckles (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago),
Reese Samuel (Pittsburgh),
Miles Simon (Atlanta) and
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) broke the school record, clocking in at 6:42.35 while taking second overall in the event.
In that same event, Simon swam first leg and shattered the program's 200 Free mark with a 1:39.59. The previous record was held by Jared Miller in 2015 (1:40.51). Additionally, the Atlanta native broke the NEC meet record.
On the women's side, senior
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.), junior
Courtney Connolly (White Lake, Mich.), sophomore
Alana Josey (York, Pa.) and freshman
Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Naussau, Bahamas) reset the school record in the 800 Free Relay, registering a 7:46.29 time. The previous mark was set back in 2017 (7:52.45).
In that same event, Connolly competed in the first leg and produced the third-fastest mark in school history (1:55.88).
