EMMITSBURG, Md. — Howard University men's swimming & diving came within a single point of a road victory Friday afternoon, falling 139.5–138.5 to Mount St. Mary's despite standout performances from veterans and underclassmen alike.
The Bison posted several first-place finishes, including a strong showing from junior
Jack Barr (Nassau, Bahamas), who captured the 400 SC Meter Freestyle with a winning time of 4:18.41, leading a 1–2–3 Howard sweep in the event as teammates
Solomon Goins (Dallas, Texas) and
Darien Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) completed the podium.
Junior
Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also turned in a big day, sprinting to a win in the 100 SC Meter Free at 52.16, then returning to dominate the 50 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 25.15, one of the fastest sprint performances of the meet. Howard added another victory in the fly thanks to senior
Taj Benton (Baltimore, Md.), who powered through the final 25 meters to take the 100 SC Meter Butterfly in 55.66.
In the longer races, sophomore
Jalen Stewart (New Castle, Del.) delivered a crisp swim in the 200 SC Meter Free, touching first in 1:58.15 to hold off a late charge from the Mount. First-year diver
Trevor Sewell (Decatur, Ga.) added critical points on the boards, winning the 1-meter dive with a score of 211.40, leading a strong Howard contingent that placed three in the top five.
Despite the Bison claiming victories across multiple disciplines, the meet came down to the final relay points, where Mount St. Mary's narrowly out-touched Howard to secure the one-point margin.
Next, the Bison head to Baltimore for Loyola's annual H2ounds Invitational November 21st–23rd.
