WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Howard University women's basketball announces its four captains for the 2021-22 season: Sophomore Kaniyah Harris, Junior Iyanna Warren, Senior Krislyn Marsh, Graduate Student Vanessa Udoji. Coaches and players voted on the foursome.
"I am extremely proud to have these four young ladies be selected as captains this season. They have exhibited positive qualities and behavior that we continually strive for within our team. They are a reflection of our core values and a positive representation of our program." said Head Coach Ty Grace. "I look forward to their leadership on and off the court!"

#33 Kaniyah Harris | Sophomore| Guard | Capital Heights, MD/C.H. FLOWERS HS
During her rookie campaign, Harris played in 18 of 19 games for the Bison, averaging 16 minutes a game. She averaged 3.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.6 points a game.
Thoughts from Coach Grace:
"Kaniyah is solid as a rock. She brings balance and reliability. She always has a level head and will help anyone she can. She makes us better because she knows what to do and who can do it. She exemplifies determination and focus, which is reflected on the court and in the classroom."
Thoughts from Harris:
"To be named captain is truly an honor. Having my coaches believe in me to lead this team with only one collegiate year under my belt is motivating. It lets me know that they see something in me that's bigger than basketball. As far as my teammates, I appreciate that they trust me to be there for them both on and off the court."
#02 Iyanna Warren | Junior | Guard | Accokeek, MD/Oxon Hill HS
Warren recorded a stellar sophomore campaign. She started in all 19 games for the Bison. Warren was the floor general for Howard, recording a league-leading 97 assists, 5.11 assists per game. She knocked down a league-leading 98 free throws. Warren ranked 9th in the league in scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game. The floor general for the Bison:
- Led the league in assists, recorded a career-high 14 assists.
- She was named to the 2020-21 All-MEAC third team and the 2021 U.S. Air Force Reserve MEAC Basketball All-Tournament team.
Thoughts from Coach Grace:
"Deuce is the heart and soul of our team. Her personality to always help others before herself speaks volumes to her character. She is reliable and consistent. But, more importantly, an infectious leader. I couldn't ask for a better example on and off the court.
Thoughts from Warren:
"Being named a team captain means that my coaches and team see characteristics in me that exhibit good leadership, being a team player, and as someone who the rest of the team can look up to. In addition, they see me as responsible, reliable, and a teammate who can bring our team together. I plan on exceeding their expectations day-in and day-out."
#32 Krislyn Marsh | Senior | Forward/Wing | Houston, TX/Duncanville, HS
Marsh, a graduating senior, was the six-woman for the Bison last season after coming off of injury, played in 14 games, and finished third on the team with 80 rebounds. Marsh started 55 games in her first two-season and racked up over 500 rebounds, 81 steals, and 60 blocks over her three-year career.
Thoughts from Coach Grace:
"Kris is one of our hardest workers. She leads by example every time she steps on the floor. She is a competitor and cares about this team and program. I know she will take pride in her new role."
Thoughts from Marsh:
"To be a captain means I get the opportunity to help bring the team together and that my team trusts me to help us win. I want to help lead this team to a championship, and give back and pull out the best in my teammates, the way those before did for me."
#23 Vanessa Udoji | Graduate Student | Randolph, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon
Udoji joins the Bison after completing her studies at Quinnipiac University. She started 13 games for the Bobcats. Udoji lost two and a half seasons due to injury; she was a MAAC All-Academic performer. Last season, she appeared in 19 Bobcats games, Flashing defensive ability with three steals, three rebounds, and one block in 22 minutes against Fordham (11/29/17). In her sophomore season, she started the first six games before being lost for the season with an injury. Scored 14 points in back-to-back wins over Northern Colorado (11/22/17) and Dayton (11/28/17) in the 2017 season; in her first collegiate start, she posted 16 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3FG, 6-6 FT) with seven rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes against Saint Peter's(12/1/16). Additional accomplishments include:
- MAAC All-Academic team (20-21).
- Ranked as the 18th-best wing player (90 overall ratings) in the country according to ESPN's recruiting ranking list coming out of High School(2016)

"Vanessa has brought maturity and experience to the team. Not only is she an exceptional student, but she is responsible and brings a positive spirit every day. I know she will continue to bring her energetic attitude both on and off the court."
Thoughts from Udoji:
"As a grad transfer, being a captain for this team is a huge honor. It is a testament to the level of trust the coaching staff has in me and my teammates. I'm excited to serve as a role model for my teammates and leave an impact on the program in any way I can."
