ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 3, 2021) – Howard University women's tennis team closed out its fall slate at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regionals in Annapolis, Md., host by the U.S. Naval Academy.
Overall, HU found early success in singles competition.
"Competing at the ITA regionals was a great experience for our team," said Howard associate head coach
Breaunna Addison. "Competing against some of the best teams in the region exposed some areas of improvement, but we are motivated and looking forward to the spring season."
DAY 1
Newcomer
Sifa Butcher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) topped Towson's Ameilla Lawson in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) and advanced to the Round of 64.
Fellow classmate
Nadia Pegram won her opening round contest against Saint Joseph's Fabiana Tort-Umpierre in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
In the Round of 64, Butcher clinched a two-set victory over Delaware's Isabella Montana (6-2, 7-5) and moved to the Round of 32.
Third-year Bison
Yemisi Ifederu (London, England) and rookie
Jordan Grayson (Gaithersburg, Md.) each lost in the Round of 64 to crosstown rival Georgetown's McHaley Ho (3-6, 1-6) and Agata Mikos (1-6, 3-6), respectively.
Pegram dropped her second round match to the Terps' Mary Brumfield in straight sets (1-6, 5-7).
DAY 2
In the third round, Butcher was eliminated by Penn State's Yvonna Zuffova in straight sets (0-6, 5-7).
In the consolation bracket, Grayson and Ifederu each won a pair of singles matches.

Howard prepares for the upcoming 2022 spring campaign, opening the year with crosstown foe UDC at The Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus.
