Men’s Tennis Back in Action at George Mason

Bison take on Patriots in a DMV showdown

WASHINGTON (February 21, 2020) – Howard University men's tennis team heads to Burke, Va., Saturday (Feb. 22) to take on George Mason. First serve is set for 6:45 p.m.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Saturday will be the first time both programs have faced off in four years. The Bison have a 1-6 record against George Mason since 2007, with the lone win coming at home in 2013 (4-0).
 
HOWARD
 
Men's tennis has started off the season 0-2 overall with losses at George Washington (0-7) and versus Loyola (Md.) (1-6).
 
On Feb. 5, senior Cole Gittens (New York) was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his singles performance against the Greyhounds.
 
GEORGE MASON
 
Mason (1-3) enters Saturday's showdown looking to bounce back after a 0-7 loss against James Madison Friday (Feb. 21). The squads lone win came at Mary Washington, 5-2.
 
Most likely, Edward Ayers will serve as the Patriots' No. 1 singles player while Faisal Alredi and Jakob Nielsen arrives as the team's top doubles team.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Feb. 1, the team fell at Loyola, 1-6, with Gittens earning his first singles victory of the season.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard returns to The District to takes on North Carolina Central Saturday (Feb. 19) at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
