TOWSON, Md. (February 16, 2020) – Coach
Ron Davis and the Howard University women's bowling team saw success on the lanes at the James Brown Invitational (Feb. 14-16), hosted by Morgan State University (MSU), where the squad finish fifth overall after going 8-5 for the weekend.
HU ended Day One (Feb. 14) going 4-1, including a victory over No. 13 Sacred Heart University (934-856). Howard's lone loss on the day came against No. 14 Mount St. Mary's University (882-934).
Howard struggled some the next day (Feb. 15), only going 1-4 overall. HU lone win on the afternoon came versus conference rival and tourney host MSU in a close contest (879-876).
Third-year bowler
Carolyn Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) led the way in traditional competition, averaging a 187.6 in five matches. Sophomores
Jahnia Phillips (Elmont, N.Y.) and
Jayla Webster (Woodbridge, Va.) followed suit, producing 184.4 and 181.8 averages, respectively.
After two days, the Bison found themselves in seventh place.
Sunday (Feb. 16), HU won all three best-of-seven baker style matches and finished fifth overall. Howard swept Chestnut Hill College and Bloomfield College, 4-0, and took down No. 24 Wilmington (Del.) in five, 4-1.
On Feb. 21-23, the Bison head down to Pensacola, Fla., to compete in the second MEAC meet of the year, hosted by Florida A&M University.
