BALTIMORE (April 20, 2019) – After competing against 17 squads through the Delaware, Maryland, and D.C. areas, Howard University men's track & field took seventh overall at the 2019 Morgan Legacy, hosted by Morgan State, after racking up 61 points over the two-day event.
Sophomore
Nathaniel Are (Chicago) led the way, winning the 2019 men's pole vault after catapulting over nine feet in the air (2.75m). For his efforts, the Chicago native scored 10 points for HU.
Freshman
Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) earned eight points for the Bison with a second-place finish in the men's 3000m steeplechase, recording a new personal best (10:17.67).
Fellow classmate
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.) became the latest Bison to qualify for the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Daniel registered a personal best 21.50 mark in the men's 200-meter dash. Also, the Georgia product punched a ticket to Princeton, N.J. for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Championships.
Senior
Kenneth Chigbue (Bowie, Md.) also competed in the 200-meter dash where he finished 12
th overall with a season-best (21.63).
In the field, senior thrower
David Hudson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) placed fourth in the men's shot put after tossing nearly 47 feet (14.22m).
Freshman
Tyler Brown (Coatesville, Pa.) and sophomore
Brian Witter (Miramar, Fla.) took 12
th and 15
th, respectively, in the men's discus throw. Brown threw a personal best 39.88m (130'10") while Witter chucked 38.30m (125'8").
Other notable field performance included newcomer
Michael Coddrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placing fourth in the men's hammer throw after throwing over 124 feet (37.83m).
