Howard Women’s Soccer Quest for SWAC Title Begins Thursday

Bison seek fourth tourney title in six years

WASHINGTON (November 6, 2019) – Howard University women's soccer team returns to action after nearly two weeks away where they look to win their fourth Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) title in six years at the 2019 SWAC Tournament in Houston, hosted by Prairie View A&M (PVAM).

HU's quest begins Thursday (Nov. 7) when they take on No. 8 Southern in the SWAC Tournament Quarterfinals. Match time is set for 11 a.m. (ET)/10 a.m. (CT).

Fans can follow all the action at www.pvpanthers.com or www.SWAC.org

SEASON IN REVIEW

Howard enters tourney play with a 12-3 (10-1 SWAC) mark and a share of the SWAC Regular Season Championship. Despite sharing the title, HU comes in as the top seed in the tournament, thanks to a head-to-head victory over the Panthers, 3-0, back in October.

In league play, Howard outscored the opposition, 25-4, with eight shutouts, including seven consecutive to start SWAC competition. HU's lone loss in conference play came on the road at Alabama A&M, 1-2.

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW

Last year, Howard defeated Grambling State, 1-0 to claim its third SWAC crown since joining the conference.

No. 1 Bison face No. 8 Southern Thursday at 11 a.m. (ET)/10 a.m. (CT).

Prairie View A&M earned the No. 2 spot and will play No. 7 Alabama State. No. 3 Jackson State and No. 6 Texas Southern will also square off while No. 4 Alabama A&M is slated to face No. 5 Grambling State in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Sunday's championship match will stream live on the SWAC Digital Network at noon (ET)/11:00 a.m. (CT).
