Women’s Tennis Concludes MEAC Play with Hawks and Hornets

Howard seeking a clean sweep Monday

WASHINGTON (April 15, 2018) – Coach Larry Strickland and the Howard University Women's Tennis team concludes Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with a pair of matches at the Banneker Recreation Center Monday.
 
HU meets Maryland Eastern Shore at noon, followed by Delaware State (DSU) at 3 p.m.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEWS
 
HOWARD
 
Currently, HU (5-8, 2-2 MEAC) sits third in the MEAC Northern Division. With a pair of victories, the Bison would clinch a berth in the conference tournament in Norfolk, Va. Juniors Nicole Hutchison (7-4, 3-1 MEAC) and Kindha Nasef (6-5, 3-1 MEAC) are riding a three-match winning streak apiece. Newcomer Yassmine Khiri also have a winning record in singles competition (5-3, 1-0 MEAC) despite missing action due to injury.
 
MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
 
Eastern Shore (0-6, 0-1 MEAC) searches for their first victory of the year. Freshman Sarah Adewumi represents as the club's top singles player, posting a 2-4 mark on the season.
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
DSU (1-3, 0-3 MEAC) grabbed its first win of the season by defeating Rider, 6-1. Overall, Delaware State is 13-12 in singles play with Sofia Rachi serving as the squad's No. 1 player.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On April 8, Howard suffered a tough loss against the Morgan State Lady Bears, 4-3, at the Banneker Recreation Center.
 
In singles competition, Hutchison and Nasef pave the way with three-set victories while Khiri was re-inserted into the lineup and served as HU's No. 2 player where she topped the Lady Bears' Alexus Gill in straight sets (6-4, 6-3).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard ends the regular season versus George Mason on Senior Day (April 22). Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Banneker Recreation Center.
