PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (December 1, 2018) – Howard University Men Track & Field squad opened its indoor season placing second at the Eastern Shore Cappy Anderson Invitational, hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore.
Individually, senior
Tariq Fullerton (Kingston, Jamaica) and sophomore
Mekhi Closson (Baltimore) led the way. Fullerton earned a first-place finish in the mile (4:31.82) while Closson claimed the top spot in the men's 200-meter dash (22.43).
With his efforts, the Baltimore native qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.
Freshmen
Jermaine Byrd (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.),
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.) and
KiShaun Carter (Brick, N.J.) placed first (8.42), second (8.47) and third (8.53) in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Additionally, Byrd qualified for the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships in Landover, Md.
The 4x400 relay squad of Closson, seniors
Kenneth Chigbue (Bowie, Md.) and
Korey Lombard (Antioch, Calif.) and freshman
Corintheans Payne won with a 3:22.08 time and qualified for the ECAC Championships.
Chigbue also made the cut and advanced to the MEAC Indoor Championships in the men's 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.00.
Sophomores
Anthony Gordon (Clinton, Md.) and
Malik Kosanovich (Lawrence, Ga.) and freshmen
Matthew Marchbanks (Chicago) and
Aariq Nixon (Baltimore) were victorious in the men's distance medley relay, registering a 10:43.87 mark.
