Bison wrap up home stand against Eagles

WASHINGTON (October 5, 2018) – Coach Phillip Gyau and the Howard University Men's Soccer team wrap up its home stand with their Sun Belt Conference (SBC) opener against Georgia Southern (GSU) on Alumni Day. Match time is set for 5 p.m. at Greene Stadium.

LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Sept. 29, in a contest that saw a combined 47 shots, HU and the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets were unable to find the back of the net as the contest ended in a tie, 0-0, at Greene Stadium.
 
Junior goalkeeper Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) registered a season-best 10 saves in the tied.

Saturday's showdown will be the fifth meeting between Howard and Georgia Southern with the series tied, 2-2.
 
Last season, Howard rallied from a 3-0 deficit to pull within one but came up short as GSU held off the Bison, 4-2. Graduate Student Joel Cunningham (Spanish Town, Jamaica) and junior Andres Gomez (Silver Spring, Md.) each scored in the loss.
 
HOWARD
 
HU (1-4-3) enters conference play with one of top goalkeepers in the league in Caro. Recently, the Maryland native was selected SBC Defensive Player of the Week after his efforts against VMI. Currently, he leads the Sun Belt in total saves (35) and saves per match (4.38). Gomez and senior Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.) spearhead the Bison attack, combining for seven goals on the season.
 
GEORGIA SOUTHERN
 
GSU (4-4-1) leads the league in several offensive categories, including total points (48), total goals (17) and total assists (14). Javier Carbonell ranks No. 1 in the SBC in total points (26) and total goals (12).
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Tuesday (Oct. 9), Howard starts a brief two-match road swing in Piscataway, N.J. where the Rutgers Scarlett Knights await. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
