WASHINGTON (October 6, 2017) – Coach Phillip Gyau and the Howard Men's Soccer team opens conference play against the Appalachian State Mountaineers. Saturday's match starts 7 p.m. at Greene Stadium.

With less than five minutes remaining, both squads were deadlocked, 1-1, until Robert Morris' Bayley Winkel scored the go-ahead goal to down Howard, 2-1.
 
Victor Guirma assisted Marcus Johnson with HU's lone goal and put the Bison ahead, 1-0.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Appalachian State (3-5-2) has lost two-out-of-three with their last contest ending in a tie versus High Point, 0-0. Offensively, Juan Hernandez leads the squad in scoring with five points (two goals and an assist).
 
For HU (1-10), they look to start conference play with a big win over the Mountaineers. Junior midfielder Victor Guirma leads the Bison with three points while sophomore goalkeeper Carlos Caro has started eight contests between the sticks, compiling a .612 save percentage.
