HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Howard women's soccer team will begin its journey to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship on Nov. 3 on the campus of Prairie View A&M.
After taking home the 2014 and 2015 crowns, the Bison enter this year's tournament as the No. 1 seed and will face No. 8 Southern on Thursday at 10 a.m. HU went 9-0-1 in SWAC action to claim the 2016 regular season title and are 12-4-2 overall.
Howard has the opportunity to do something that's never been done in SWAC women's soccer – win three consecutive tournament championships.
The Bison are 2-1 against the Jaguars since joining the SWAC in 2014. Howard has won the last two meetings, including this year's 4-0 shutout.
Junior Gabrielle Emilien has proven herself to be one of the top goalies in the country. She ranks sixth in the nation with a 0.889 save percentage and 16th behind a 0.560 goals against average.
Junior Noelle McCullom leads the team and is sixth in SWAC in points (20) and goals (9), while classmate Kela Gray stands ninth with 19 points and ties for seventh on eight goals.
