WASHINGTON, DC --- The Howard Men's & Women's Tennis teams began their Spring seasons on Friday afternoon with a pair of home matches against Saint Francis University at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation Southeast DC Campus.

The Bison women (1-0) edged the Red Flash 4-2 while the men (0-1) were shut out by SFU 7-0.

The 2015 HBCU National Champions picked up where they left off from the Fall season by sweeping the doubles matches and claiming half of the singles contests. Senior Stacey Roheman and freshman Kindha Nasef set the pace for the Bison with straight set singles victories and doubles wins in the first two flights. Freshman Christina Joynes saw her first two matches at No. 6 Singles & No. 3 Doubles be decided by default.

The Bison men struggled in their first action of the Spring, falling in straight sets in five of six Singles matches. Freshman Spencer Kelly put forth a strong effort in his collegiate debut at No. 6 Singles, taking the first set from SFU's Robin vader Heijden and going to a tiebreaker in the second.
