Phillip Gyau was unable to lead the Bison Booters to victory as the George Mason Patriots shut out Howard, 7-0, in the #Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup.
Howard (0-1) struggled to create offense in their season debut against a George Mason (2-0) program that went 12-3-6 in 2013 and made it to the NCAA Tournament. HU only managed six shots to 20 for Mason (2-0) and four shots on goal to the Patriots' 12.
Freshman forward
McKinley Smith led the Bison with two shots and was one of four players to notch a shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Eric Hamilton played all 90 minutes and managed four saves on the 11 shots he faced.
Mason senior forward Tim Mulgrew and sophomore midfielder Colton Amindon each scored three goals while freshman forward Henning Dirks added another.
Howard will look to bounce back in their second game of the D.C. College Cup, a 12 noon matchup with George Washington on Sunday, August 31.
