and
Brooke Hawthorne. The two seniors have combined for over 120 singles and doubles wins in their time at Howard and have been the most consistent performers for the Lady Bison all season. Stokes was honored before the game while Hawthorne was unable to make the match due to illness.
Even with three matches being cancelled due to darkness, Howard easily handled the Lady Bears. Stokes won her last home matches - a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 over MSU's Chelsi Russell and an 8-3 double triumph at No. 1 doubles over Arina Alilueva & Margarita Belyakova.
Sophomore
Umarah Mughnee took down Alilueva in straight sets as well, winning the No. 2 singles flight, 6-4, 6-2. Roheman would complete the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ekaterina Iakovleva.
The other doubles win for HU came courtesy of
Maame Osei &
Jessica Josiah's 8-2 victory over Iakovleva & Jasmine Edwards at the No. 2 slot. The lone setback for the Lady Bison was an 8-3 loss at No. 3 doubles against Russell and Cierra Plummer.
Howard's season will continue at the 2014 MEAC Tennis Championships from April 17-19 at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center in Cayce, SC.
