Howard Loses Close Match Against Mount St. Mary

RESULTS

UPPER MARLBORO, MD --- Coming off a tough four match road swing, the Howard men's tennis team hosted Mount St. Mary's University in their first home match of the season. The Bison played their best game of the year but fell just short of their first victory, losing to the Mountaineers by the final score of 4-3.

The underclassmen duo of sophomore Myron Davis and freshman William Jones led the charge for the Bison, as the pair accounted for two of Howard's three game wins and three of four individual victories overall.

In singles, Davis & Jones each won their matches in straight sets - Jones taking the #1 singles match over sophomore Austin Blake (6-1, 6-2) and Davis winning for Howard at #4 singles over senior Mike Zabetakis (6-3, 6-1).

The pair captured their match in #1 doubles in a hard-fought set tiebreaker, 6-5.

Freshman Ismael Kaouache earned Howard's third game point with a #2 singles victory over sophomore Peter Salomon (6-4, 6-4).

The Mountaineers were able to pick up three singles victories #3, #5 and #6 positions, along with the #2 and #3 doubles matches, to claim the contest.

The Bison will be back in action on Sunday, February 23 against the US Naval Academy.
