MEN'S RESULTS

BETHANY BEACH, DE --- The Howard University men's and women's tennis teams faced off against the University Delaware at the Sea Colony Resort, walking away with a split in the two matches.

The Lady Bison defeated Delaware 5-2 while the Bison men were swept 7-0 by the Blue Hens in UD's season opener, handing the men's team its third loss of the season.

In singles play, the women won four out of six of their matches:

• Katelyn Stokes pulled out a win against Danea Jonjic in #1 singles (6-3, 6-4);
• Umarah Mughnee defeated Dorothy Safron (6-4, 6-2) in #2 singles;
• Stacey Roheman beat Nataliya Naumova (3-6, 6-3, 10-6) in #4 singles;
• and Jessica Josiah topped Kim Milla (6-2,6-2) at #6 singles.

The Lady Bison also won two of their three doubles matches:

• Katelyn Stokes & Stacey Roheman defeated Carmen Lai & Dorothy Safron (8-5) at #1;
• and Maame Osei & Jessica Josiah defeated Kim Milla & Danea Jonjic (8-6) at #3.

The Bison competed were unable to claim a victory in its nine total games (six singles, three doubles).

Freshman Ismael Kaouache won HU's only set of the day, taking the first set of the #2 singles match before dropping the final two against UD's Adam Lawton (3-6,6-3,10-8).

The Bison are set to take on Mt. St. Mary's February 15 at the Watkins Tennis Bubble in Upper Marlboro, MD. The Lady Bison match up against Drexel February 16 at the Drexel Armory in Philadelphia, PA.
