Box Score Farmville, VA—It took 90 minutes of regulation and two overtimes and in the end, the Howard University women's soccer played Longwood to 0-0 tie in a non-conference season opener for the Bison at the Athletics Complex.
The host Lancers (0-1-1), who opened their season with a tough, 3-2 road loss to ACC opponent North Carolina State on Sunday, dominated all the statistical categories, with a whopping 18-4 advantage on shots, including a 9-4 edge on shots on goals.
But the resilient Bison (0-0-1) showed that they are much improved as they overcame the 86 degree temperature and the deeper Longwood bench to keep the Lancers without a goal. Much of the credit goes to junior goalkeeper
Kyra Dickinson, who logged all 110 minutes and recorded nine saves against the hosts.
Howard prevailed, 1-0 in a match against the Lancers last year in Washington, DC.
The Bison will try to build on the effort when they take on American University on Friday at 7 pm at Greene Stadium. It will be the first of four straight home matches for Howard.
