NEWARK, NJ --- The Howard University women's soccer team traveled to Newark, NJ Friday evening to complete its season with a second straight matchup with the New Jersey Institute of Technology. After 110 minutes, the Lady Bison finished their year the way they started - playing to a tie game.
Both Howard and NJIT were looking to obtain major team goals but each fell just short with a 1-1 tie.
HU (6-7-2) was looking to earn its first record of .500 or better since its 10-8 campaign in 2001, while NJIT (7-10-1) hoped to set its program record for wins with eight, but neither team was able to reach their milestone.
NJIT took the lead in the 41st minute on a rebound goal by Camille Billing.
In the 65th minute, senior
Sydney Ross put in a header off a free kick from freshman
Carmen Suarez off of a free kick. The goal was the third of the year from Ross, a senior playing in her last college game.
Junior goalkeeper
Kyra Dickinson stopped seven shots for Howard, while NJIT's Samantha Bersett stopped two shots.
Howard's six wins are tied for the most in the five-year tenure of Head Coach
Brent Leiba (6-10, 2010).
