MATCHUP PREVIEW
HOWARD
Howard (0-5-1) continues its early-season road campaign, looking to regroup after falling to a red-hot Delaware (UD) squad (6-0) last weekend (Sept.13) at Greene Stadium, 5-0.
After keeping things tight through the opening 18 minutes, the Bison defense held strong, blocking seven shots before conceding their first goal. At the half, the deficit stood at just 1-0.
In the second half,
Justin Mims (Norwalk, Conn.) sparked Howard's attack with multiple efforts on goal, including a low shot in the 32
nd minute. He finished the match with a team-high three shots on target.
Freshman
Zach Simmons (Rockwall, Texas) nearly cut into the deficit late in the match with
a low strike in the 82
nd minute, but it was saved by the Blue Hens' keeper.
Between the posts,
Liam Keiller (Gaithersburg, Md.) made five saves despite consistent
pressure from Delaware's front line.
Howard will look to build rhythm and find the back of the net as they prepare for challenging road trip.
VMI
VMI (1-4-3) enters the contest after earning a 1-1 draw against Ferrum College Wednesday (Sept. 17), marking their second-straight positive result. The Keydets have now scored in three consecutive matches.
Midfielder Thimson Duolo netted the equalizer in the 76
th minute, heading in a cross from
Andres Fuentes-Ramos. It was Duolo's team-leading third goal of the season.
Goalkeeper Santiago Rocha, making his first start of the season, registered three saves in the tie. VMI held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal and allowed zero corner kicks defensively.
Key contributors included Rocha, Conner Reid, Colin Blandford, Timofey Dovgalyuk and Jack Yough — all of whom played the full 90 minutes. Four substitutes also logged 40+
minutes, showing VMI's increasing depth and cohesion.
LAST TIMEOUT
On Sept. 13, Howard hosted undefeated Delaware at Greene Stadium. Despite early defensive stands, the Bison ultimately fell, 5-0. The team registered multiple second-half attacking chances but could not convert while UD scored four times after intermission to seal the result.
