NORFOLK, Va. (May 16, 2025) – Howard University women's track & field program moved into striking distance with three victories on Day Two of the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Outdoor Championships, held at Dick Price Stadium in Norfolk, Va., hosted by Norfolk State University (NSU).
HU sits in second place with 78 points, trailing NSU by only three points with one day left.
Illinois natives senior
Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor) and rookie
Jasmen Walker (Flossmoor) opened the day, finishing first (4332 points) and second (4305 points), respectively, in the heptathlon.
In the field, DMV product graduate
Erin Hatcher (Silver Spring, Md.) won gold in the hammer after tossing nearly 200 feet (60.72 meters). Junior
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) also competed in the event, taking fourth overall (50.63 meters).
Graduate
Nneka Ezeama (Smithfield, R.I.) came away victorious in the spot put, throwing over 50 feet (15.42 meters). Banwo placed second in the event (13.87 meters).
Third-year Bison
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) took silver in the long jump, leaping 5.96 meters (19'6.75").
On the track, freshman
Mira Martin (Columbus, Ohio) tallied six points after a third-place finish in the 3K steeplechase.
Also on the track, several Bison qualified for Championship Saturday.
Graduate
Marcia Sey (London, United Kingdom) and
Ariana Smith (Pennsville, N.J.) and junior
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburg, N.C.) each earned spots in the short hurdle (100-meter) final, running AQ times of 12.98, 13.19 and 13.52. Junior
Jazmyn Wajd (Tampa, Fla.), freshman
Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) and third-year Bison
Lauren Thompson (Frisco, Texas) also competed and made the final cut with non-automatic qualifying marks of 13.40 (personal best), 13.57 and 13.86, respectively. Saturday's race is slated for 1:40 p.m.
Graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) and sophomore
Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) ran automatic qualifying times in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 11.19 and 11.45, respectively. Sey and sophomore
Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) also took part in the event, securing slots with non AQ marks of 11.26 and 11.60, respectively. Saturday's race is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
Senior
Camille Egbula (Simpsonville, S.C.) and rookie
Tiffany Mugubi (Houston) competed in the 800-meter run where they secured spots for Championship Saturday, producing AQ marks of 2:06.82 and 2:10.52, respectively. Freshman
Kendall Robinson (Bowie, Md.) also participated in the event, running a new personal best at 2:11.90 (non AQ). Saturday's final round begins at 2:30 p.m.
Juniors
Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.) and
Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) rounded out Bison qualifying for Championship Saturday, each recording automatic qualifying times of 54.05 and 54.56, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Saturday's race begins at 2 p.m.
Championship Saturday kicks off at 10 a.m., with the field events. Saturday's (May 17) action will be streamed on ESPN+, starting at 1 p.m.
