GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 2, 2026) – Howard University women's track & field squad closed out the regular season on a high note, winning six events at the annual Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T State.
In the field, seniors
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) secured gold and silver in the long jump after leaping 5.56 meters (18'3") and 5.38 meters (17'8"), respectively. Armstrong, Mumford and sophomore
Jasmen Walker (Flossmoor, Ill.) competed in the triple jump, earning second (12.03 meters), third (11.99 meters) and sixth (21.06 meters), respectively.
Senior
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) grabbed third (46.09 meters) and eighth (12.94 meters), respectively, in the discus and shot put. Banwo and second-year Bison
Kinnidi Hampton (Rowlette, Texas) participated in the hammer throw, landing fourth (49.74 meters) and sixth (44.23 meters), respectively.
On the track, freshman
Alexis Jones (New Windsor, N.Y.) and sophomores
Ester Kirk (Morristown, N.J.) and
Chloe Poindexter (State College, Pa.) swept the 1500-meter run, placing first (4:37.27), second (4:40.96) and third (4:50.01), respectively.
Sophomore
Tiffany Mugubi (Houston) took first place in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 2:09.16). Jones and junior
Sarah Seam (Gaithersburg, Md.) also ran the race, finishing second (2:15.22) and fourth (2:17.10), respectively.
Senior
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburg, N.C.) won the 400-meter hurdles with a 57.94 mark. Sophomore
Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) and rookie
Carrie Vannoy (Oak Park, Mich.) also took part, earning second (58.24) and fifth (1:00.34), respectively.
Freshman
Nilijah Darden (Greensboro, N.C.) took home gold in the 200-meter dash, recording a 23.54 time.
Fellow classmate
Gabby White (Silver Spring, Md.), senior
Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) and sophomore
Cenaiya Billups (Denver) also participated in the race, grabbing fourth (24.08), fifth (24.18) and seventh (24.51), respectively.
Turner, Billups and Woodruff competed in the 400-meter dash, placing first (54.27), fourth (55.13) and fifth (55.51), respectively.
Other notable performance on the track included senior
Lauren Thompson (Frisco, Texas) securing third place in the 100-meter hurdles (13.54).
On May 14-16, HU heads to Norfolk, Va., for the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Outdoor Championships, hosted by Norfolk State.
