Women’s Track & Field Moves Up at the MEAC Outdoor Championships

More Bison punch tickets to Championship Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. (May 15, 2026) – Howard University women's track & field team moved up one slot after Day Two of the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Outdoor Championships in Norfolk, Va.
 
Currently, the Bison sit in third place after registering 49 points.
 
Sophomore Kinnidi Hampton (Rowlette, Texas) and Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) led the charge, securing silver (13.13 meters) and bronze (12.83 meters), respectively, in the shot put. The duo also competed in the hammer throw with Hampton taking second (48.51 meters) and Banwo claiming third (48.12 meters).
 
Seniors Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) and Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) tallied points in the long jump, finishing fifth (5.93 meters) and eighth (5.83 meters), respectively.
 
Second-year Bison Jasmen Walker (Flossmoor, Ill.) wrapped up the two-day heptathlon marathon where she placed second overall with 4,389 points.
 
On the track, HU dominated the short hurdles with six Bison punching their tickets to the final round: graduate Marcia Sey (London, United Kingdom); seniors Lauren Thompson (Frisco, Texas) and Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburg, N.C.), sophomore Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) and freshman Carrie Vannoy (Oak Park, Mich.) and Gabby White (Silver Spring Md.).
 
Saturday's race is slated for 1:40 p.m.
 
Juniors Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Yahnari Lyons (Hampton, Ga.) and rookie Nilijah Darden (Greensboro, N.C.) made the 100-meter dash final with automatic qualifying (AQ) times of 11.63, 11.48 and 11.49), respectively.
 
Saturday's final round is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
 
Senior Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.) punched her ticket to Championship Saturday with an AQ time of 54.07 in the 400-meter dash. The race is set for 2 p.m.
 
Morgan State holds the top spot with 60 points, followed by Delaware State (50 points).  
 
Championship Saturday (May 16) kicks off at 10 a.m., with events, such as women's pole vault, men's triple jump and women's javelin. To end the three-day event, the women's 4x400 relay commences at 4:05 p.m., followed by the men's 4x400 relay at 4:15 p.m.
