Track & Field Set to Co-Host Third Annual Bison Classic

Bison carry outdoor season momentum back home to D.C.

WASHINGTON (April 4, 2025) - Howard University men's and women's track and field teams return to D.C., to co-host the third annual Bison Classic, alongside the Gallaudet University (GU) Bison. The outdoor meet will take place Saturday, April 5, at Berg Track & Field on GU's campus (800 Florida Avenue, NE, Washington, D.C., 20002).

MEET PREVIEW
 
The outdoor action down the road at Gallaudet kicks off at 9:30 a.m., with men's and women's throwing events.
 
At 10:45 a.m., senior athletes will be recognized for their contributions to the Howard track & field program and the Howard University community as a whole.
 
Following acknowledgments, running events will begin with men's and women's 10K-meter runs, beginning at 11 a.m.
 
In addition to Howard and Gallaudet, the Bison Classic will feature five other track and field programs, along with five unattached athletes: Marymount University (Va.); McDaniel College; Medgar Evers College; Notre Dame of Maryland University and St. Mary's College of Maryland.
 
The Bison make up 39 of 218 athletes competing Saturday.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
The program shined across America last week, competing at the Texas Relays, Raleigh Relays and Maryland Invite. Some top performers to look out for heading into Saturday include:
 
MEN
  • Chase Drewery (Senior – Waldorf, Md.) - (Texas Relays) second in triple jump (15.31m)
  • Kyle Fisher (Senior – Duluth, Ga.) - (Texas Relays) fourth in triple jump (15.15m)
  • Andre Prince (Junior – Windsor, Conn.) - (Maryland Invite) third in hammer throw (50.59m) and sixth in javelin throw (37.64m)
  • Solomon Young (Freshman – Charlotte, N.C.) - (Maryland Invite) fifth in hammer throw (44.82m)
  • Tarike Lavine (Freshman – Bridgetown, Barbados) - (Maryland Invite) eight in hammer throw (38.91m)
  • Benjamin Hilliard (Freshman – Indianapolis) - (Maryland Invite) seventh in javelin throw (23.34m)
  • Ezekiel Hawkins (Fifth Year – Lithonia, Ga.) - (Maryland Invite) second in 110-meter hurdles (15.06)
  • Amon-Ra Watkins (Senior – Bronx, N.Y.) - (Maryland Invite) fifth in 110-meter hurdles (15.60)
  • At the Texas Relays, the 4x400-meter relay squad of graduate student Noah Langford (Virginia Beach, Va.), sophomore Emerson McKindra (Linden, N.J.) and rookies Cameron Brazell (Houston) and Elijah Grant (Fort Mills, S.C.) earned second overall (3:05.49).
WOMEN
  • Marcia Sey (Graduate Student – London, United Kingdom) - (Texas Relays) first in 100-meter hurdles (12.76)
  • Cenaiya Billups (Freshman – Denver) - (Texas Relays) first in 400-meter hurdles (59.95)
  • Jazmyn Wajd (Junior – Tampa, Fla.) - (Texas Relays) seventh in triple jump (12.04m)
  • Ija Mumford (Junior – Winston-Salem, N.C.) - (Texas Relays) seventh in long jump (5.53m)
  • Erin Hatcher (Graduate Student – Silver Spring, Md.) - (Texas Relays) program and conference record in hammer throw (59.71m)
  • Jasmyn Hunter (Senior – Flossmoor, Ill.) - (Maryland Invite) first in 100-meter hurdles (14.38)
  • Nadia Jacobs (Sophomore – Chesapeake, Va.) - (Maryland Invite) second in 100-meter hurdles (14.42), 3rd in 100-meter dash (12.61)
  • Jasmen Walker (Freshman – Flossmoor, Ill.) - (Maryland Invite) fourth in 100-meter hurdles (15.20)
  • Temi Banwo (Junior – Allen, Texas) - (Maryland Invite) third in discus throw (41.31m)
  • Kinnidi Hampton (Freshman) - (Maryland Invite) sixth in discus throw (35.58m)
  • Juniors Kiya Lawson (Montclair, N.J.) and Zoe Turner (Mableton, Ga.), sophomore Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.), and newcomer Brooke Cochran (Silver Spring, Md.) represented the Bison in Texas, claiming first overall in the 4x200-meter relay (1:33.40)
  • Also in Texas, the 4x400-meter relay team featuring Lawson, graduate student Ariana Smith (Pennsville, N.J.), junior Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburg, N.C.), and freshman Lindsay Johnson (Detroit) took silver with a time of 3:33.89.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Following their meet in D.C., the Bison will travel to North Carolina for the Duke Invitational, hosted by the Blue Devils (April 11-12).
