WASHINGTON (April 30, 2025) – Howard University men's golf team earned the No. 13 seed in the NCAA Amherst Regional (May 12-14) where they will compete at the Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Va., hosted by Liberty University. The announcement took place during the NCAA Selection Show, live on the Golf Channel Wednesday afternoon.
The squad watched the announcement at the Argyle Country Club in Silver Spring, Md.
Sunday (April 27), the Bison captured their second straight Northeast Conference (NEC) championship in Williamsburg, Va., erasing a seven-stroke deficit after two rounds of play.
Throughout the tourney, HU shot 8-over par (860), including a 289 (+3) on the final day.
Four Bison were named to the NEC All-Tournament Team after finishing in the top 10 individually:
Cassius Blake (Birmingham, England);
Bear Huff (Riverside, Calif.);
Mathis Perroni (Metz, France) and
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.).
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 12-14. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
LSU received the top spot in the stacked Amherst region. Squads competing in the Amherst region include Howard, LSU, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida Gulf Coast, Kent State, Oklahoma, Pepperdine, Princeton, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Texas is the host institution for the 2025 championships.
