NORFOLK, Va. (April 21, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its softball weekly awards where Howard University saw a pair of Bison acknowledged for their outstanding performances. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
Graduate
Ameenah Ballenger won MEAC Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year while newcomer
Lauryn Jones (Denton, Texas) claimed the league's Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Ballenger tossed a five-inning no-hitter Monday (April 14) at Coppin State, striking out six Eagles in the victory.
For Jones, she batted .500 (4-of-8) with five runs scored, three stolen bases, two RBIs and an inside-the-park homer en route to a perfect 4-0 week.
Senior
Kenna Higa (Honolulu) received honorable mention after hitting .500 (6-of-12) with five runs scored, four RBIs, two doubles and a pair of homers during the four-game span.
South Carolina State senior Taylor Ames-Alexander was named MEAC Player of the Week. Delaware State's Kristin White shared Co-Pitcher of the Week with Ballenger.
On April 26-27, Howard faces Norfolk State (NSU) in a MEAC three-games series in Norfolk, Va. Saturday (April 26), HU takes on NSU in a doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by a seven-inning contest Sunday (April 27) at noon.
