HOWARD
HU (24-14) extended its conference win streak to 14 games while securing its second straight MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Regular Season Title with a weekend sweep versus Coppin State (April 18-19).
Howard continues to rank among the national leaders, offensively, with senior outfielder
Maryn Jordan (San Diego) sitting 19
th in batting average and 14
th in on-base percentage.
On April 20, Jordan earned MEAC Player of the Week after hitting .750 with six runs scored, four RBIs and three walks versus Coppin State.
Sophomore pitcher
Aiko Conaway (Haymarket, Va.) and freshman infielder
Janis Sutton (Marysville, Calif.) received honorable mention recognition for their performances.
GEORGE MASON
George Mason (23-20) enters the matchup after splitting a doubleheader at Villanova (April 18). The Patriots dropped game one, 6-1, before responding with an 11-3 victory in the nightcap.
Logan Pickford led George Mason, offensively, recording her 100
th career hit during the doubleheader while finishing game two with four RBIs, three runs scored and three hits. Elyssa DeRosa also added three hits and a run scored in the win.
LAST TIMEOUT
On April 18-19, Howard swept Coppin State in a three-game series to secure the MEAC Regular Season Title. The Bison earned run-rule wins in Saturday's doubleheader (April 18), 8-0 and 10-0, before finishing the sweep with a 7-3 victory Sunday (April 19).
Howard was led by Jordan, who hit a home run in game two and finished the weekend with six runs scored, four RBIs and a .750 batting average.
Juniors
Cheyenne Castille (Eastvale, Calif.),
Wisdom Colbert (Jacksonville, Fla.) and
Makyia Taylor (Temecula, Calif.) also delivered key offensive performances throughout the series.
In the circle, Conaway threw a complete-game no-hitter in game one while senior pitchers
Destiny Calloway (Evington, Va.) and
Julia Holt (Tucson, Ariz.) combined for the shutout in game two as Howard's pitching staff dominated the Eagles all weekend.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Howard returns home to Nationals Youth Academy for its final regular season MEAC series against Norfolk State. The series begins Saturday (April 25) with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., followed by Senior Day Sunday (April 26) with first pitch set for noon.
