Howard Softball Set to Defend Title at MEAC Tournament

No. 1 Bison enter championship week as reigning conference champions

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Howard University softball returns to postseason play this week with its sights set on back-to-back titles, entering the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament as the No. 1 seed for the second consecutive season.

The Bison (25-17, 18-3 MEAC) carry both momentum and expectation into the four-day tournament, having established themselves as the league's top team throughout the regular season. Howard's .857 conference winning percentage led the MEAC and secured the program's place atop the bracket once again.

Opening tournament play on Wednesday, May 6th, the top-seeded Bison will face the winner of No. 4 Norfolk State and No. 5 Morgan State at 5 p.m.

Howard enters the tournament as the defending MEAC champions, following last season's title-clinching victory over South Carolina State. The championship marked the program's second MEAC crown in four years and secured an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

On the national stage, the Bison competed in the 2025 NCAA Softball Tournament in Durham, N.C., taking on Duke and Coastal Carolina in regional play, an experience that continued to shape this year's mindset.

Throughout the 2026 campaign, Howard has leaned on a balanced approach, combining timely hitting with steady performances in the circle. The Bison's depth has been a key factor, with fresh contributions throughout the lineup and on the pitching staff helping sustain consistency throughout conference play.

The MEAC Tournament begins Wednesday with opening-round matchups, followed by elimination and semifinal rounds on Thursday and Friday. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at noon, airing on ESPN+.
