Women’s Hoops Concludes Regular Season Versus Rival Spartans

Bison seeking a share of the MEAC Regular Season crown

WASHINGTON (March 6, 2025) – Howard University women's basketball team concludes its regular season with home matchup versus rival Norfolk State (NSU) Thursday (March 6). Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m., and will be aired on ESPNU.

NSU (26-4, 13-0 MEAC) is coming off a 96-57 road win at North Carolina Central Monday (March 3) for its 15th straight win of the season. The Spartans had six players in double figures: Diamond Johnson (19 points); Da'naijah Williams (16 points); Niya Fields (15 points), Anjanae Richards (15 points); Kierra Wheeler (14 points & nine rebounds) and Jenesis Hill (10 points).
 
HOWARD
 
On March 3, graduate guard Destiny Howell (Queens, N.Y.) continues to play her best basketball at just the right. The New York native had yet another outstanding game, scoring a game-high 21 points to lead four Bison in double figures as HU rolled to an easy 89-39 win over South Carolina State inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Gymnasium.
 
WHEN THE TWO LAST MET
 
On Jan. 25, guards Howell and Saniyah King (Washington) combined for 24 points and 11 assists and junior forward Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.Y.) had her best all-around in a Bison uniform, but it was not enough to overcome a big third quarter run as HU fell, 69-53, to NSU at Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall before 2,692 fans.
 
SERIES RECORD
 
The Spartans defeated Howard, 69-53, earlier this season (Jan. 25) in Norfolk, Va. Howard last won, 73-60, in D.C. (Jan. 20, 2024).
 
The Spartans have won six-of-the-last-nine meetings. This is the 38th meeting between the two programs since 2007 and the Bison hold a 19-18 advantage during that span.
 
THE COACHES
 
Norfolk State is coached by Larry Viclkers (Norfolk State, '07), who is in his 10th year at the helm. Howard is led by Ty Grace (New Haven, '99), who is also in her 10th season.

Howell is now ninth on the all-time Howard scoring list with 1,377 points…Howell has made 43-of-her-last-48 from the charity stripe while recording at least one three-pointer in all but two games this season...Howell is the only Howard player to start all 28 games this season…Howell has set personal career season records in assists (64), blocks (16) and steals (36)...Howell has scored 20 points or more eight times this season...Howell has recorded 36 assists in the past 13 games and 16 steals in the past seven contests…King, the odds-on favorite for MEAC Rookie of the Year, has been named Rookie of the Week 11 times this season...Despite not playing the game at South Carolina State (March 3), King still leads the MEAC in assists (127), dealing out 59 assists in the past 12 games…King has reached double figures in scoring in 14-of-the-past-16 games, including a career-best 25 points versus Morgan State (Feb. 17)…Miller has also been key to the team's success with 25 points on 10-for-18 shooting and 22 rebounds…Thomas has grabbed 19 rebounds in the past two games…Sophomore guard Janyah Bohanon (Cleveland) has come off the bench to score 20 points, grab 11 rebounds and hand out three assists in the past three games…Graduate forward Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.) has 21 points and 10 rebounds during that same period…Graduate forward Vanessa Blake (Summerville, S.C.) has contributed nine points and nine rebounds in the past two games off the bench.
