FORT COLLINS, Colo. (March 16, 2025) – The Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) revealed its 48-team field for the 27
th annual Postseason WNIT, powered by Triple Crown Sports, where the Howard University women's basketball team earned an automatic bid to the historic event. The announcement came Sunday night.
Howard was among the 11 teams who earned the automatic qualifier for being the highest regular-season finishers in their conference that did not receive a bid into the NCAA Tournament or WBIT.
"Our longstanding belief has always been that women's college basketball demanded the respect that comes with a genuine postseason challenge outside the standard tournament," said
Sarah Sullivan, WNIT director. "For more than a generation, we have been there to celebrate the determination and hard work of players, coaches and staff that helped make the sport so great. Others have tried to copy our model, but for pure excitement and the kind of competitive environment that lifts programs higher, the Postseason WNIT set the standard before the turn of the century."
Overall, 21 teams won 20 or more games this season.
The Postseason WNIT will release its full bracket Monday (March 17) with matchups, locations and start times for the opening round.
HU posted a 21-11 overall mark (12-2 MEAC) and reached the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Title game for the fifth consecutive year.
