NORFOLK, Va. (March 11, 2025) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its women's basketball postseason honors Tuesday where Howard University saw four Bison acknowledged for their performances during the 2024-25 season. The announcement came during the conference's annual awards ceremony.
Standout freshman Saniyah King (Washington) highlighted the night, becoming the sixth Bison in program history to win MEAC Rookie of the Year. It came as no surprise as the D.C. native made history as an 11-time Rookie of the Week for the Bison. King leads the MEAC in assists, averaging 4.7 a game - the mark comes in at 59th in the nation. King ranks in the top 10 in several conference categories, including three-point field goal percentage (2nd), assist-turnover ratio (2nd), free throw percentage (5th), minutes (6th), scoring (10th) and three-point field goal per game (10th). She was also named to the All-MEAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team.
Graduate guard Destiny Howell (Queens, NY) earned All-MEAC First Team after leading the league in three-point field goals made (70) and three-point field goals made per game (2.4). The New York native also ranks second in free throw percentage (.862), fifth in scoring (15.1 PPG) and sixth in 3-point percentage (.348). Howell ranks as one of the nation's best in multiple categories, including free throw percentage (39th) and three-point field goals made per game (46th).
Junior forward duo Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.J.) and Zennia Thomas (Cleveland) made the All-MEAC Third Team after powering through with their constant defensive presence all season.
Miller, also named to the MEAC All-Defensive Team for the second year in a row, ranks ninth in rebounds, averaging 5.3 a game, and eighth in offensive rebounds and steals in conference. The New Jersey native ranks fifth in blocked shots (32) on the season.
Thomas made her mark, leading the Bison in total rebounds while ranking fourth in the MEAC (197). Her average of seven rebounds per game comes in fifth on the conference charts. Thomas shot a team-leading .502 from the floor – second in conference. Her free throw percentage of .605 ranks eighth in the MEAC while her 18 blocked shots come in at no. 10.
Norfolk State's (NSU) Diamond Johnson was named MEAC Player of the Year while teammate Anjanae Richardson earned Sixth-Player of the Year. Coppin State senior forward Laila Lawrence claimed Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row while Morgan State's Naya Ojukwu was named the Newcomer of the Year.
