WASHINGTON (February 1, 2025) – Howard University men's swimming & diving team cruised to victory, defeating crosstown rival Catholic, 179-63, on Senior Day inside Burr Gym Pool.
HU closed out the regular season on a three-meet win streak.
Overall, the Bison produced 11 first-place finishes.
Graduate
Tristan Stevens (Chicago), seniors
Darin Johnson (Atascocita, Texas) and senior
Erald Thompson III (Nassau, Bahamas) and junior
Taj Benton (Baltimore) opened the day with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay, clocking in at 1:31.79.
Individually, Stevens and sophomore
Adam Diaz (Manhattan, N.Y.) took first (50.62) and second (53.30), respectively, in the 100 Back.
Johnson took home gold in the 100 Breast (57.96) while fellow classmate
Tai Afrik (Holland, Mich.) earned first place in the 200-IM (1:57.70) and 100 Free (47.18).
Benton won the 100 Fly with a time of 49.79.
Juniors
Darien Williams (Philadelphia) and
Daren Rodgers (Chicago) finished first (21.19) and second (21.91), respectively, in the 50 Free.
Sophomore
Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and third-year Bison
Ty Triche (Humble, Texas) claimed gold (1:43.91) and silver (1:47.63), respectively, in the 200 Free.
Afrik, Benton, Rodgers and Stevens finished the day victorious in the 200 Free Relay (1:18.96).
On the board, freshman
Zion Wilson (San Antonio) won the 1-meter (222.25 points) and 3-meter (224.15 points) dives.
During the meet, Howard Director of Swimming & Diving
Nicholas Askew and the staff recognized 11 Bison overall, including six on the men's side, their hard work and dedication to the program: Afrik; Johnson; Thompson;
Cyrus Gibson (Ocala, Fla.);
Zay Swilley (Bradley, Ill.) and
Jordan Walker (San Antonio).
On Feb. 19-22, Howard goes to Geneva, Ohio for the Northeast Conference Championships.
