RICHMOND, Va. (July 7, 2025) – The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) revealed its Spring Scholar All-America Team where Howard University was recognized for academic excellence during the 2025 spring semester. The announcement came Thursday (July 3).
To qualify for this prestigious recognition, teams had to earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) during the 2025 spring semester.
"I'm so proud of our program," said Howard Director of Swimming & Diving
Nicholas Askew. "Our young men and women continue to display academic excellence inside the classroom while performing at a high level in the pool. They exemplify what it means to be a Howard University student-athlete."
In the spring semester, the men and women posted 3.26 and 3.50 GPAs, respectively.
Collectively, the CSCAA recognized 18,459 student-athletes based on their outstanding academic performances during the fall semester. The selection was made of 763 teams from 432 institutions throughout the country.
"These teams exemplify what it means to be true student-athletes," said
Samantha Barany, Executive Director of the CSCAA. "Their dedication to academic excellence, alongside their athletic commitments, is both impressive and inspiring. The CSCAA is proud to recognize and celebrate their hard work and achievement."
Additionally, the CSCAA unveiled its Spring Individual Scholar All-American Team where
Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) received Second-Team Scholar All-America.
Nwaeze becomes the first Bison to earn this recognition since
Christian Nickolas (2019).
"We are all super proud of Zuzu for her academic and athletic success during the 2024-25 season," Askew expressed. "Her achievements are another example of the direction the program is heading. We are fortunate to have Zuzu as one of our leaders and cannot wait to celebrate more accomplishments in the future."
To qualify for Second-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
Recently, the Maryland native received NEC (Northeast Conference) Winter Academic Honor Roll and Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Coach Askew and the Bison continue their request for a pair of NEC titles in winter 2025-26.
