MATCHUP PREVIEW

HOWARD (7-4-3, 5-0-2 NEC)

Howard comes into Sunday's contest riding a wave of momentum after a 1–0 shutout victory over New Haven Thursday afternoon (Oct. 16). With the win, the Bison extended their unbeaten streak in conference play to seven matches and notched their third consecutive clean sheet at home.

Junior forward Samantha James (Herndon, Va.) provided the game's only goal in the 15th minute, calmly slotting home a loose ball inside the box for her second score of the season.

Howard's defense held firm the rest of the way, limiting the Chargers to just a handful of shots while controlling the bulk of possession. Trinity Knox (Atlanta) anchored the back line with a composed performance in goal, registering another clean sheet behind timely stops and strong communication.

Midfielders Demi Owens (Teaneck, N.J.) and Asia Mickens-Perez (Upper Marlboro, Md.) each tallied three shots as the Bison pushed for insurance throughout the match.

Howard has outscored opponents 4–0 across its last three games and will look to continue its balanced attack and disciplined defending on the road in Chicago.

CHICAGO STATE (0-13-1, 0-7-1 NEC)

Chicago State returns to action after a 4–0 home loss to NEC leader FDU.

Despite the result, the Cougars began the match with confidence, recording three early shots within the opening eight minutes to put the Knights on their heels.

Maya Dixon, Alexandra Black and Saige Thor each contributed attempts during the strong start.

The Cougars were forced to play with 10 players for most of the match following two quick yellow cards, which allowed FDU to shift momentum and capitalize. The Knights converted a first-half penalty and added three goals after halftime to secure the result.

Chicago State continued to show resilience with Renee Davis and Leah Rocha testing the goalkeeper in the second half.

Aviana Gutierrez turned in a gritty performance in net, finishing with 11 saves over 90 minutes.

Although the Cougars remain winless in NEC play, their early match energy and moments of attacking promise show a team capable of challenging opponents when at full strength. They will aim to bounce back in front of their home crowd Sunday.

LAST TIMEOUT

Howard defeated New Haven, 1–0, Thursday (Oct. 16) with James scoring early and Knox earning the shutout to keep the Bison unbeaten in NEC play. The Bison outshot the Chargers and limited quality chances en route to their third straight clean sheet at home.
