HOWARD (6-4-3, 4-0-2 NEC)
Howard extended its unbeaten run in conference play with a hard-fought scoreless draw against Stonehill Sunday (Oct. 12) at home.
The Bison created numerous chances throughout the match and dominated large spells of possession but could not break through despite a second-half shot that hit the crossbar.
Offensively,
Alauna Rutland (Fairfax, Va.) led the team with three shots, including one on target and another off the woodwork.
Samantha James (Herndon, Va.),
Adora Nwosu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), and
Imani Kissi (Dublin, Ohio) also provided attacking support, each registering shots on goal.
Defensively, Howard's backline remained organized and composed as goalkeeper
Trinity Knox (Atlanta) came up with timely saves to deny the Skyhawks late. Overall, the Atlanta native registered seven saves while securing her second clean sheet of the season.
The Bison enter Thursday's matchup with the second-most goals scored in NEC play and a defense that has allowed just two goals over their last four matches.
NEW HAVEN (1-8-2, 1-4-1 NEC)
The Chargers fell at Delaware State, 2-1, Sunday (Oct. 12) in a tightly contested road match.
Caleigh Wynter scored her team's lone goal in the 82
nd minute to cut the deficit late, but New Haven could not find the equalizer.
Defensively, the Chargers conceded 37 total shots, including 19 on goal, and managed just six total shots of their own.
Freshman goalkeeper Bianca Ventura has faced heavy pressure this season and continues to be a key contributor between the posts.
Wynter and Daniella Rios lead the offensive effort for the NEC newcomers.
The team will look to tighten up in the back while continuing to build in the attacking third.
LAST TIMEOUT
Howard played to a scoreless draw versus Stonehill behind seven saves from Knox and a strong second-half push that included a shot off the crossbar.
New Haven dropped a close NEC contest as their goalkeeper made key saves but the team could not generate enough offensive pressure.
