NORFOLK, Va. (April 5, 2024) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its men's and women's track & field weekly accolades where Howard University saw three Bison acknowledged for their outstanding efforts at the annual Texas Relays (March 28-30). The announcement came Friday.
On the men's side, graduate
Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hill, United Kingdom) claimed the MEAC Co-Track Athlete of the Week while junior
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) grabbed the league's Field Athlete of the Week. For the women, graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston) took home the conference's Track Athlete of the Week.
Bennett finished runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles while moving into second all-time in the MEAC record book, clocking a time of 13.39 seconds. With his efforts, he ranks third in the country and second all-time in school history.
Fisher led the way for HU in the triple jump, finishing third overall while leaping 15.40-meters (50'6.25"), which ranks 16
th in the nation.
Collins ran a new school record time of 11.23 during the 100-meter dash prelims, ranking 12
th in the nation. In the final round, she placed sixth overall with a 11.42 mark.
Norfolk State junior Gidion Sigei shared the MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors with Bennett while Coppin State junior Woizero Richards was named Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
On April 6, Howard stays in The District for the annual Bison Classic, co-hosted by HU and Gallaudet. The action starts at 9:30 a.m.
