PHILADELPHIA (April 27, 2024) – Howard University men's and women's track & field program competed at the prestigious Penn Relays (April 25-27), hosted by Penn inside Franklin Field.
Several Bison excelled during the three-day festival, led by junior
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) winning Friday's (April 26) College Men's Long Jump College. The Virginia native leaped 7.33 meters (24'0.75").
On the women's side, second-year Bison
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) earned third overall in the long jump, hopping nearly 20 feet (6.00 meters).
In the relays, graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston), junior
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and rookies
Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) represented Bison Nation in the women's 4x100 where they took third place (44.30).
Individually, Collins and Pittman ran the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 11.65 (5
th) and 11.72 (9
th), respectively. Graduate
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) also participated in the men's 100-meter dash, placing eighth overall (10.73).
Senior
Noah Langford (Portsmouth, Va.) and graduate
Simone Watkins (Frisco, Texas) raced in their respective 400-meter hurdles, finishing fourth (51.47) and fifth (58.35).
Graduate
Samuel Bennett (Langdon Hills, United Kingdom) and freshman
Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas) made the 110-meter hurdles final, registering times of 13.59 (4
th) and 14.14 (9
th), respectively.
Howard goes to Norfolk, Va., for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships (May 6-8), hosted on the campus of Norfolk State University.
