Women’s Basketball Hosts Delaware State in Home Finale

Bison wrap up home schedule with Lady Hornets

WASHINGTON (March 4, 2024) – Howard University women's basketball team wraps up its home schedule with Delaware State Monday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m., inside Burr Gymnasium.

Saturday (March 2), fifth-year guard Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) scored a game-high 18 points and senior forward Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.) added 17 points to lead the streaking Bison to a 64-48 win over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game.
 
Junior forward Vanessa Blake (Summerville, S.C.) chipped in with seven points on a day when Howard played most of the game without the services of two key players: redshirt freshman and the team's leading scorer Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.) and sophomore forward Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.J.), the team's leading rebounder. They both got into early foul trouble
 
LAST MATCHUP
 
On Feb. 5, Miller scored a team-high 19 points and just missed a double-double while Creek added 15 points to lead the Bison to a 69-57 road win at Delaware State.
 
Walker finished with 10 points.

On Feb. 5, Howard defeated the Hornets, 69-57, in Dover, Del. The Hornets last won, 87-86 (Jan. 11, 2016).

Howard (12-14, 9-3 MEAC) is coming off a 64-48 road win at UMES for its fourth in a row and seventh of last nine games.
 
The Bison are led by Warren (12.0 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 80 total assists, 29 total steals & 80-percent from the free throw line), Walker (11.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, team-high 49 three pointers made & 84-percent from the free throw line), Blake (6.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg & 52-percent shooting from the floor), Miller (6.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg & team-leading 23 total blocks) Creek (7.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 36-percent from three-point & 10 total blocks) and Kaniyah Harris (61 total assists).
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
Delaware State (8-17 overall, 4-8 MEAC), which is coming off a 65-51 loss at Norfolk State that snapped a two-game win streak.
 
The Hornets are led by senior guard Jai'Naiah Perkins-Jackson (11.3 ppg), junior forward Tyshonne Tollie (11.3 ppg & 4.2 rpg), sophomore guard/forward Savannah Brooks (10.2 ppg & team-leading 33 made three pointers), graduate guard Denisha Wilson (9.6 ppg) and freshman forward McKenzie Stevens (7.3 ppg, team-leading 44 steals & 14 total blocks).
 
BISON NOTES
  • As the season winds down, the Bison have three players in strong consideration for post-season honors: Miller for MEAC Defensive Player of the Year: Walker for Rookie of the Year and Warren for All-MEAC First Team.
  • Coach Ty Grace, who has had perhaps her finest hour of coaching at Howard since taking over, is a strong candidate for MEAC Coach of the Year.
