VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (February 18, 2024) – Howard University track & field program finished Sunday night sitting in second place after Day One of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships.
HU men tallied 18 points while the Bison women secured 23 points. Both squads recorded points in the long jump and 5K run.
Redshirt junior
Wendesen King (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) took part in the 5K run, clocking in at 14:56.29 while producing four points.
On the women's side, junior
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) and fifth-year Bison
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) represented HU in the same event, finishing fourth (18:27.40) and seventh (19:42.04), respectively. The duo combined for 11 points.
Also on the track, graduate
Kailei Collins (Houston), junior
Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and newcomers
Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Mackenzie Robinson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) advanced to the 200-meter dash final round. Tuesday's (Feb. 20) final is set for 2:40 p.m.
In the field, sophomores
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and
Kelis Armstrong (Plano, Texas) and junior
Jasmyn Hunter (Flossmoor, Ill.) competed in the long jump where they placed second (5.78 meters), fourth (5.65 meters) and sixth (5.60 meters), respectively. The Bison trio collected 16 points.
For the men, juniors
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) and
Sean Wray (Stafford, Va.) earned a spot on the podium after taking silver (7.36 meters) and bronze (7.24 meters), respectively, in the long jump.
Norfolk State leads Day One on both sides.
Day Two begins at 9 a.m., with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1K race.
