NEW CASTLE, Del. (January 21, 2024) – Howard University women's bowling team returned to the lanes after nearly a two-month hiatus at the Northeast Classic, hosted by No. 17 Sacred Heart University (SHU).
On Day One, HU dropped the first two Baker matches to rival No. 14 Maryland Eastern Shore, 725-922, and Saint Francis, 785-949, but rebounded with a win over New Jersey City College, 918-784.
Howard closed out Day One with losses to LIU, 820-898, and No. 13 Merrimack College, 806-906.
HU struggled on Day Two, dropping all five traditional matches, including a 743-934 setback to SHU.
All-MEAC selection sophomore
Cameren Sullivan (Chicago) led the Bison, averaging 164.4 in five contests, including 177 against Bryant.
Senior captain
Aleyana DeBrest (Philadelphia) had a solid performance versus Wagner College, rolling a 192 on the day.
On the final day, HU competed in three Baker best-of-seven matches where they fell in the first two against Mount Aloysius College (MAC), 3.5-4.5, and No. 1 Jacksonville State (JSU), 0-4, but rallied to win the rematch against MAC, 4-1.
Howard placed 33
rd for the tournament.
Jacksonville State won the 2024 Northeast Classic, defeating No. 5 North Carolina A&T State in six, 4-2.
Youngstown State's Jade Cote took home the individual medal after registering 240.4 in five traditional matches. JSU's Kayla Smith finished runner-up, rolling 230.4.
On Feb. 9-11, the Bison travel to Mount Joy, Pa., for the annual Mount Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary's.
