WASHINGTON (Jan. 19, 2024) - Howard University men's and women's track & field program returns to action Saturday, Jan. 20, after last week's two-stop outing at the HBCU Showcase in New York and the Rod McCravy Invitational in Louisville, Ken. HU will travel to Landover, Md., for the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic University of America. The meet begins at 10 a.m., at the Prince George's Sport & Learning Complex.
LAST TIMEOUT
Over the weekend, HU competed in both the HBCU Showcase and the Rod McCravy Invite, hosted by the University of Kentucky. Both teams put up strong performances, earning nine top-three finishes overall.
HBCU SHOWCASE
On the men's side, redshirt junior
Wendesen King (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) placed second in the mile run (4:20.66) and 3K run (8:35.76), while earning fifth in the 800-meter run (1:57.89).
Junior
Amon-Ra Watkins (Bronx, N.Y.) and sophomore
Evander Thomas (Richmond, Va.) placed seventh (7.19) and eighth (7.21), respectively, in the mile run.
Senior
Ezekiel Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) took home a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.29).
In the field, sophomore
Andre Prince (Windsor, Conn.) earned silver in the weight throw after tossing nearly 51 feet (15.44 meters).
For the women, junior
Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) and fifth-year Bison
Breanna McDonald (Bethesda, Md.) ran the 3K run where they earned second (10:21.93) and third (10.21.93), respectively. The Bison duo, along with sophomore
Jordyn Miller (Mundelein, Ill.), also ran in the mile run, placing third (5:21.63), fifth (5:30.29) and sixth (5:35.85), respectively.
Freshman
Asha Smith (Bowie, Md.) placed second in the 60-meter dash (7.91) while sophomore
Jazmyn Wajd (Tampa, Fla.) finished sixth overall (8.88) in the short hurdles (60- meter).
In the field, fifth-year thrower
Erin Hatcher (Silver Spring, Md.) earned the lone victory over the weekend for the Bison in the weight throw, tossing over 60-feet (18.38 meters). Sophomore
Temi Banwo (Allen, Texas) and graduate
Zaria Opara (Carnation, Wash.) also took part, taking sixth (15.95 meters) and seventh (15.69 meters), respectively.

For the men, freshman
Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas), fifth-year Bison
Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ken.), and senior
Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) placed third overall (7.95), fourth (7.96) and fifth (8.01), respectively in the 60-meter hurdles.
Junior
Jamar Bailey (Boilingbrook, Ill.) and freshman
Emerson McKindra (Linden, N.J.) ran the 400-meter dash, finishing fourth (49.71) and seventh (50.78), respectively.
Freshman
Jordan Good (Greensboro, N.C.) placed fifth in the 800-meter run (1:52. 52) and sophomore
Adam Musgrove (Nassau, Bahamas) took eighth in the 200-meter dash (22.01).
In the field, junior jumpers
Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) and
Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) competed in the triple jump, placing fifth (14.60 meters) and sixth (14.27 meters), respectively.
On the women's side, sophomore
Aniya Woodruff (Harrisburn, N.C.) took eighth-place in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 57.71.
In the field, sophomore
Ija Mumford (Winston-Salem, N.C.) placed eighth in the triple jump after jumping over 38 feet.
NOTABLE AWARDS
Senior
Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Track Athlete of the Week Award after placing eight in the 60-meter hurdles at the Rod McCravy Invite with a time of 8.41, ranking third in the MEAC and 48
th nationally.
Laing received an honorable mention for his third- place finish at the Rod McCravy Invite. His 7.89 time in the semifinals ranks second in the Mid- Atlantic region and 37
th nationally.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
On Jan. 26-27, Howard head to Clemson, S.C., for the Bob Pollock Meet, hosted by Clemson University.
