Men’s Track & Field Contends in a Pair of Meets

Bison return from break with solid performances

LOUISVILLE, Ken. & NEW YORK (January 13, 2024) – Howard University men's track & field team returned from the winter break with solid performances at the HBCU Showcase in New York and the Rod McCravy Invitational in Louisville, Ken., hosted by the University of Kentucky.
 
HBCU SHOWCASE
 
On the track, redshirt junior Wendesen King (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) led the charge with a pair of second-place finishes in the mile run (4:20.66) and 3K run (8:35.76). He also took part in the 800-meter run, earning fifth overall in the event (1:57.89).
 
Junior Amon-Ra Watkins (Bronx, N.Y.) and sophomore Evander Thomas (Richmond, Va.) competed in the 60-meter dash, placing seventh (7.19) and eighth (7.21), respectively.
 
Other notable performance on the track included senior Ezekiel Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) finishing fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.29.
 
In the field, second-year Bison Andre Prince (Windsor, Conn.) received silver in the weight throw after tossing nearly 51 feet (15.44 meters).
 
ROD MCCRAVY INVITE
 
In the 60-meter final, freshman Otto Laing (Freeport, Bahamas) placed third overall (7.95) while fifth-year Bison Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ken.) and senior Zachary Hawkins (Lithonia, Ga.) took fourth (7.96) and fifth (8.01), respectively.
 
Junior Jamar Bailey (Boilingbrook, Ill.) and rookie Emerson McKindra (Linden, N.J.) competed in the 400-meter dash where they finished fourth (49.71) and seventh (50.78), respectively.
 
Other noteworthy performances on the track included freshman Jordan Good (Greensboro, N.C.) placing fifth in the 800-meter run (1:52. 52) and sophomore Adam Musgrove (Nassau, Bahamas) taking eighth in the 200-meter dash (22.01).
 
In the field, junior jumpers Kyle Fisher (Duluth, Ga.) and Chase Drewery (Waldorf, Md.) took part in the triple jump, earning fifth (14.60 meters) and sixth (14.27 meters), respectively.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
On Jan. 20, HU travels to nearby Landover, Md., for the Robert Comstock Cardinal Classic, hosted by Catholic.
