WASHINGTON (September 11, 2023) - Howard University women's basketball team unveiled its 2023-24 nonconference slate, featuring several crosstown rivals and the prestigious Battle 4 Atlantis event. The announcement came Monday.
"Once again, I'm very excited about this year's non-conference schedule," said Howard women's basketball head coach
Ty Grace. "We have put together another competitive and balanced set of games to prepare us for conference play. I expect my team to have fun and enjoy competing but being on the right side of the scoreboard will also be very important. We have a good shot at seeing success this fall."
HU opens the new season crosstown at George Washington (Nov. 6) before hosting Mount St. Mary's in its home opener on Sneakerhead Night (Nov. 9).
After a quick trip to New Hampshire (Nov. 12), the Lady Bison return home to battle Duquesne on Org Night (Nov. 14).
On Nov. 18-21, Howard travels to Nassau, Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis, becoming the first HBCU to compete in this prestigious tournament. To make reservations, click

"Getting invited to the prestigious Battle 4 Atlantis tournament will be a great experience for our team," Grace expressed. "To be the first HBCU selected says a lot about how people view our program and we are consistently building a competitive team year after year. This tournament will provide a high level of basketball and opportunity for our players to enjoy a beautiful country while competing against some of the best teams in college basketball."
Three days after Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), HU returns to the hardwood versus Manhattan. During the game, Howard Department of Athletics will be collecting toys for their annual Toy Drive.
After a tough four-game road swing at Georgetown (Nov. 30), Tulane (Dec. 10), Cincy (Dec. 13) and FAU (Dec. 16), the Lady Bison close out their nonconference schedule inside Burr Gymnasium against Hofstra for Education Day (Dec. 21) and nearby rival American for DC Pride Day (Dec. 30).
"Playing schools like Tulane and Cincinnati will definitely push our team and prepare us for what will be some big battles come conference play," Grace continued. "Also, we face each Division I school in the city. So, it will be interesting to see who takes the bragging rights this year in The District."
