BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (May 17, 2023) – The Northeast Conference (NEC) revealed its men's golf postseason honors where Howard University had a trio of Bison receive acknowledgement for their outstanding 2022-23 campaign. The announcement came Wednesday afternoon.
Seniors
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) and
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) were named to the All-NEC First Team while junior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) earned All-NEC Second Team.
Odom competed in 11 tournaments (32 rounds) during his final season with six top 10 finishes, including five in the top 5. The Memphis product won a pair of tournaments along the way: River Run Collegiate (Sept. 19-20) and Howard-USF Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 26-27).
Whiten saw action in 34 rounds (12 tournaments), earning six top 10 finishes, including three in the top 5. At the PGA Works Collegiate Championships (May 8-10), the Virginia native took home the individual medal after shooting 201, including a season-best 64 in the final round.
Smith took part in 32 rounds (11 tournaments) for the Bison, landing in the top 10 five times, including four times in the top 5. At the HU-USF Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 26-27), he finished runner-up with a 214 performance.
Sacred Heart's Marcus Lim won NEC Player of the Year while LIU's Marcelo Mexsen and Ben Belfield claimed the league's Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year awards, respectively.
Howard wrapped up its third spring season under Coach
Sam Puryear, highlighted by back-to-back PGA Works Collegiate Championships.
