BESSEMER, Ala. (May 10, 2023) – Howard University men's golf team put on a dominant performance at the PGA Works Collegiate Championships (PWCC), shooting 57 strokes better than runner-up North Carolina A&T State (NCAT).
On the final day, HU shot four-under par (284), including 19 birdies, and 25-under par (835) during the 54-hole event.
Overall, all five Bison finished in the top 12, including four golfers in the top 10.
Howard won back-to-back PWCC Titles, led by senior
Everett Whiten Jr. (Chesapeake, Va.) winning the tourney with a 14-under par (201) performance. The Virginia native had an incredible effort in the last round, recording eight-under par (64) with eight birdies and no bogeys.
Two-time PWCC Champion senior
Gregory Odom Jr. (Memphis, Tenn.) came in second place after registering five-under par (210) in three rounds.
Junior
Marcus Smith Jr. (Rockford, Ill.) took third overall, shooting 211 (-4) in three days.
Fellow classmate
Curtis Merritt (Wareham, Mass.) rounded out the top 10 after recording four-over par (219) during the tournament. The Massachusetts product tied for seventh overall.
Third-year Bison
Joshua Siplin (Orlando, Fla.) finished tied for 12
th in the player leaderboard, registering eight-over par (223) in 54 holes of action.
NCAT took second place (892, +32), followed by Florida A&M (902, +42).
Howard wrapped up its third spring season under Coach
Sam Puryear, highlighted by back-to-back PGA Works Collegiate Championships.
