WASHINGTON (April 5, 2023) – Howard University freshman broadcast journalism major
Amani Clark-Bey continued the 2023 Senior Spotlight series, featuring Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion
Christion Carter (Detroit) from the football team.
Q: When did you first fall in love with football and how has it impacted your life?
A: I first fell in love with football when I was 10 years old. I played pop warner football and I was pretty good. So, I stuck with it. That is when I fell in love with it.
Q: What made you pick Howard?
A: I went to a private high school and I wanted to immerse myself back into black culture. Academics was big for me and Howard is a very prestigious school academically and I knew that I would be getting a very prestigious degree at a place that I would enjoy during my four years.
Q: What's your favorite memory as a Bison?
A: Favorite memories were when I scored my first collegiate touchdown against Richmond in 2021, that was big for me. Also, the night game against Morgan State that same year. The energy that night was great and it was an ESPN night game, the crowd was lit and we had a very dominant win.
Q: What would you say to incoming Bison, who are considering Howard for their future?
A: I would say HBCUs are the wave right now. Howard is a place where not only you can get an amazing education, but also a culture unlike any other. You cannot get that HBCU lifestyle anywhere else.
I would also say you can go to the NFL from Howard and progress as a player. We have a great coaching staff and our facilities are being renovated constantly. You can see how many championships the athletic program has won in the last two years, we are really building on something here and this is a great place to call home.
Q: Who is your biggest supporter?
A: My mom is my number one supporter. I have been talking to her about making it to the NFL and she has stuck by my side throughout college and my entire athletic career. I also must give credit to the rest of my family, but my number one fan is my mom.
Q: If you had to take one lesson you learned from your coaching staff, what would it be?
A: The most important lesson I learned was from Coach
Bret Beachner (former Howard Tight Ends coach). For a long time, I had a problem with overthinking situations and not just playing and enjoying the moment.
Q: How would you describe your legacy as a Bison?
A: I would say that I am a very well-rounded student-athlete. Oftentimes, you do not see a lot of guys come in and focus on the very minute details of everything, not only football, but outside of football. In terms of networking, setting yourself up with career opportunities, focusing on your schoolwork and also being a stellar player on the field. If I had to describe myself as a Bison, I would say being well-rounded and being able to excel in multiple avenues.
