GAME NOTES
HOWARD
Howard quarterback
Isaiah Freeman (Chester, Pa.) will be facing his former team Saturday. The Pennsylvania native led Hampton in last year's matchup against the Bison.
James (Indianapolis) had a breakout game at Rutgers (Sept. 25). Regarded as one of the top running backs in FCS and HBCUs, James led the Bison attack with 111 yards that included a career-best 75-yard TD run.
Howard has had a challenging schedule. Since its season-opening win versus Alabama A&M (Aug. 29), who is currently 4-1 and ranked in the HBCU Top 10, Howard has faced FCS perennial No. 23 Richmond, defending national champion No. 5 Indiana and Big Ten member Rutgers. The back-to-back games versus Big Ten opponents, Indiana and Rutgers, marked the first time that Howard has played two Power 4 teams in the same season.
Four of the members of the Howard coaching staff played professionally: Head Coach
Ted White (Kansas City Chiefs), Offensive Coordinator & Tight Ends Coach
Jimmie Johnson (Washington Redskins/Philadelphia Eagles), Offensive Line Coach
Bob Whitfield (Atlanta Falcons) and Strength & Conditioning Coach
Keith Pough (Buffalo Bills).
HAMPTON
The Pirates have dropped 10-of-their-last 11 games.
Hampton has given up over 30 points in all four of their losses this season.
NEXT UP
Howard travels to Philadelphia to take on Penn Saturday (Oct. 10) at 1 p.m.
Hampton gets the bye week before taking on Sacred Heart Saturday (Oct. 17) at noon.
