Women’s Golf Looks to Bring Home NEC Title

Bison set to compete in the Sunshine State

Daytona Beach, Fla. (APRIL 22, 2023) - The Howard University women's golf team is set to compete in the Sunshine State, looking to bring home its first Northeast Conference (NEC) title to close out the 2023 spring season.
 
"The women's program has had a wonderful season," said Howard Director of Golf Sam Puryear. "We have seen a lot of individual accomplishments, but more importantly, a ton of team success."

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
 
On April 23-25, LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida will host the NEC Women's Golf Championship.
 
The conference tournament is a 54-hole, three-day affair. The final team score is the sum of the four lowest individual scores over all three days. All-Tournament teams typically consist of the top 10 finishers.
 
The 11 teams competing in this year's tournament include Howard, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, LIU, Maryland Eastern Shore, Merrimack, North Carolina Central, Sacred Heart (SHU), Saint Francis University, Stonehill and Wagner.
 
"We are truly excited," Puryear added. "We are looking forward to the challenge ahead."
 
Last season, the Bison placed sixth overall. Sophomore Kendall Jackson (Pearland, Texas) earned NEC All-Tournament honors after finishing in fifth place.
 
SHU won the championship a year ago.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On April 10-11, HU finished runner-up in the inaugural Lady Bison Invitational (905, +41).
 
Jackson won the event after shooting even par (70-75-71, 216) in three rounds of action.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
The Bison's spring season will conclude at the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championships in Birmingham, Alabama (May 8-10).
