WASHINGTON (April 21, 2023) - Howard University men and women track and field team head to Baltimore for a pair of meets Saturday (April 22). HU is set to compete in the Hopkins-Loyola Invitational, joint hosted by Johns Hopkins and Loyola (Md.) and the Morgan Legacy, hosted by the Bears.

MEET PREVIEW
The Hopkins-Loyola Invitational will start Friday (April 21) with the weight throw and Saturday will being the major track and field events. Some of the events for track include Men's & Women's 4x100 relay, Men's & Women's 1500-meter run, Women's 100-meter hurdles and Men's 110-meter hurdles. Some of the field events include Shot Put, Men's & Women's Pole Vault, Men's & Women's High Jump, Men's & Women's Long Jump, Women's Discus and Triple Jump.
The 2023 Morgan State (MSU) Legacy Track Meet features 15 total teams, including Howard, MSU, Bowie State, Coppin State, Delaware State, District of Columbia, Lincoln (Pa.), Old Dominion, Towson and Virginia State. Running events are slated to begin at 9:00 a.m., while field events start at 10:00 a.m.
LAST WEEK AWARDS
Graduate
Dylan Beard (Baltimore) and senior
Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) won Track Athletes of the Week for the performances at the Tom Jones Memorial (April 14-15), hosted by the University of Florida.
Beard broke two program records, including a MEAC-best 13.29 in the 110-meter hurdles prelims, which is second in the country. Overall, the Baltimore native placed runner-up with a 13.31 time (school record).
For Wright, she set a MEAC-best in the women's 400-meter hurdles, running 55.81, which placed fourth overall and fourth in the nation. Wright also ran a MEAC-best 52.34 in the women's 400 meters, ranking 29th nationally.

Beard, along with seniors
Ashton Daniel (Athens, Ga.) and
Ja'Leak Perry (Atlanta) and rookie
Dylan Gaines (Houston) competed in the 4x100 relay where they finished with a new school record of 40.04. Overall, Howard placed 15th in the event.
Individually, Beard broke HU Olympian and Director of Track & Field
David Oliver's mark in the 110-meter hurdles after producing a 13.31 time during the final round.
WOMEN
On the women's side, Wright claimed fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a 55.81 mark.
In the field, graduate
Mikyla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) claimed fourth overall in the hammer throw, tossing 56.96 meters.
NEXT TIMEOUT
HU heads to the City of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia) for the prestigious Penn Relays (April 27-29).
